Although there are many pills and potions for treating rosacea including some excellent natural rosacea treatments I cannot emphasis enough the importance of also watching your diet.
If you can avoid the foods and drink that trigger your rosacea to flare up you will be well on the way to getting your rosacea under control.
Rosacea Hits At 30
When I first realised I had rosacea in my early thirties (the most common time to get rosacea are between the ages of 30 and 55) I ate just about everything and anything. I am not saying that I was overweight but then I was still a relatively young man, still took part in active sports which meant I could pretty much eat what I like without putting on weight.
However, when rosacea struck I realised that it wasn’t my weight that was a concern by what I ate but the regular roasacea flare ups causing the central part of my face, and in particularly my nose, to be subject to a permanent redness.
Keeping A Rosacea Diet Diary
I read about another rosacea sufferer who kept a diet diary and I decided to do the same. At the end of every day I would religiously write down everything I ate and drank in a diary. I kept my diary at home so during the day when I was work I would make a note of what I had on a piece of scrap paper ( I got a few strange looks but it was worth it).
Now, whenever my rosacea flared up I was able to look back at my diet diary to see if there were any coincidences. Pretty soon a pattern emerged and I’m afraid to have to tell you that it resulted in me having to cut out one of my most very favourite foods. Cheese. It soon became obvious when consulting my diet diary that my rosacea flare ups often coincided when I had been eating cheese a day or two previously. This was a big blow to me as I really loved (and still do) cheese. I had it with everything – in sandwiches, on toast, with biscuits and of course, my favourite burger was always a cheese burger!
Life without cheese
Now I am not saying that cheese affects all rosacea sufferers in the same way because it doesn’t and I am sure many rosacea sufferers can eat cheese without a problem but in my case it usually causes a flare-up so now, regrettably, I am only able to eat cheese on the very rare occasion. For me, this is a price worth paying to avoid an awful rosacea flare-up. But boy, do I miss my cheese!
